PhotoWalk - Bedford Camera (Tulsa, OK)
It time again to kick in the PhotoWalk series since the weather is warming up and getting so nice outside. I’m sure you are as anxious as I am to get back to a positive social setting of learning, sharing and experimenting. All things perfectly suited to a casual photowalk event.
Bedford Camera and Video (Tulsa) 2nd Thursday Photowalk schedule is back in swing and our first is April 8 2021, 7pm-9pm on the WEST side of the Jenks Pedestrian Bridge. Check out the map below for the red circle camera icon for the meeting place before a short walk to explore the area.
In the “Small Flash - Big Light” series, we will work with the smaller camera fashion strobes and gels to create different dramatic portraits of our models. You are welcome to bring your flash system, I will be featuring the complete line of Westcott FJ Series lights and available to answer any questions. These powerful, rugged battery powered lights have a universal trigger system that will work with almost any camera. If our favorite muse, Shiann, doesn’t make an appearance, I bet the resident Fujifilm photographer and model, Tori, will be happy to set into the light. Either way, it will be a blast and you don’t want to miss the first FotoWalk of the season.
Maybe I will break out some fire as the skylight becomes darker around 8 pm and see what images we can create.
If you have any questions, be sure to stop by and see the folks over at the Bedford Camera & Video store in Tulsa, OK. Be sure to signup and follow the Bedford Camera Meetup Group for other exciting social and educational events.
After the event, I encourage participants to upload and share their images to the Flickr Group created for these events - Bedford Camera Tulsa Photography Group. This make it very easy for the models to get copies of the images taken and a great place for online social interactions.
See you soon!

Envoy FotoWalk - PhotoCon LIVE 2020
The largest Photowalk in Oklahoma, and possibly the midwest, will happen the night before Bedford Camera & Video PhotoCon and we are trying something different. We are combining talent between the Trawicks and Dorseys with a guest leader, Ryan White from RØDE Microphones.
The Trawicks will lead the STILL FotoWalk and the Dorseys will push through on the VIDEO Fotowalk. Both parties will finish at the Deep Deuce Dog Park for the Grand Finale at 8 pm for a little something special.
Last year’s event was spectacular despite the fridge temperatures and blowing winds. Let’s hope for better weather or bundle up for the “diverse” Oklahoma weather.

Join me and others on an event of LiGHT and SHADOWS on September 20th from 7pm - 9pm. This replaces the ever popular Bedford Camera & Video 3rd Thursday PhotoWalk for September 17th this month. Bring your camera, tripod and lights to experiment in the art installation created by Jen Lewin at Campbell Art Park in Oklahoma City.
We are bringing out the new Westcott FJ400 and Rapid Box Switch Octo-M to add fabulous light to the models with it’s universal trigger FJ-X2m
Here is an excerpt from the website of Oklahoma Contemporary:
Aqueous, an interactive light installation, now winds through Campbell Art Park as part of our inaugural Bright Golden Haze exhibition. During the day, Aqueous’ surface will reflect the sky, audience and surrounding environment. At night, Aqueous will engage visitors as they walk along its surface -- lighting up as they step, dance or play along the pathway. Visitors will be asked to socially distance as they explore the space.
Jen Lewin combines her studies in engineering, computer programming, dance, music and film to create public artworks that engage the body and the senses. Her works have been featured at a variety of events, including the Istanbul Light Festival, Vivid Sydney 2014 and 2018, iLight Marina Bay, Signal Fest and Burning Man; art biennales in Denver, Colorado and Gwangju, South Korea; and solo exhibitions across the United States and in Mexico, Portugal and England. Lewin has designed and installed permanent public interactive sculptures worldwide, including the Sidewalk Harp in Minneapolis; Magical Harp in Palo Alto, Calif.; Promenade in Denver, Colo.; and Ascent in Coral Springs, Fla.

2nd Thursday FOTOWALK - TULSA, OK
Welcome to another opportunity to shoot, network, and share experiences with other photographers!
Bedford Camera & Video in Tulsa organizes a FREE Photowalk the 2nd Thursday of each month. These photo walks range in locations, themes, and styles but is always to photographers of all skill levels. It’s a great time to learn and practice techniques. The local store staff and/or influencers are available to answer all your questions and even let you try out some equipment.
This month, we dust out the earthly slumber of recent challenges to soar to the skies. We are encouraging our modeling talent to dress in a SPACE or ALIEN theme outfits. We are hoping for an “out of this world” experience and will use the fabulous BOK Center as a backdrop. The silver reflective building wrap and high glass roofing can add to the flair of this theme.
Robert Trawick will be leading the PHOTO STAY around the half-block front part of the BOK Center showing you how to add flash on location to create some pop and color to your images. The newly released Westcott FJ400 lights will be on set to try with their UNIVERSAL trigger that works seamlessly with 7 different camera makers.
Head over to Bedford Camera Tulsa Photography Group to sign up and register for updates for future events. And if you are in the Oklahoma City area, check out the Bedford Camera OKC Photo Meetup group for upcoming events and classes.
Meet at the corner of W. 3rd St & S. Denver
in front of the BOK Center at 7pm.

FOTOWALK - TULSA, OK
Welcome to 2020 and we hope you are getting all in FOCUS this year. The weather has been unseasonably warm for winter and we are hoping it holds out all the way to summer. It’s time to get outside, network and shoot something.
Starting off our Fotowalk series in Tulsa, Oklahoma is very fitting since the downtown area is so diverse, it lends itself to so many opportunities for a great shot. And many times, you just need a reason to go there and why not bring along some friends.
We are going to try something a little different this trip and we might call it a “Sit & Shoot” since we are not going to plan a route around the city landmarks, but choose a cool place and use that as the base of operation. If you feel like exploring more of the area, you are welcome to travel on your own or maybe with a newly discovered friend.
Big shout-out to our resident photo-nurse, Karen Hays, for the idea of bringing a couch to the Fotowalk. She will be providing a black velvet settee transported by the Wild Bison man himself, Ken Martin. We will need some strong men to lift it from the truck and place it for the shoot. That’s where Robert Lake comes in handy along with helping with some bottled water for attendees. Robert, Bedford Camera & Video manager, will be on-site to help with camera questions and local folklore. I would advise you to stop by the store before 6 pm (closing time) to pick up any last-minute gear tips or equipment.
We will have 3-4 models to choose from for your couch shoot and will be sharing their information closer to the date.
The main character for our “Sit & Shoot” is the Richmond Settee from LA Vintage.

We plan to be at the store from 2pm until 5pm and setup for the walk at 7pm.

WE ARE WORKING WITH THE WONDERFUL FOLKS AT THE PRICE TOWER
TO SHOOT IN THE LOBBY DURING THIS FOTOWALK
We are traveling to NE Oklahoma for this FotoWalk to visit with our favorite bison photographer Ken Martin and visit Price Tower, the only realized skyscraper designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
We think the combination of oil history, local architecture and cultural diversity will get you some great images. But if you are looking for some portrait practice, our friend Karen Hays rounded up some talent for the event.
There also may be a chance to visit the Tall Grass Prarie Preserve on Sunday morning. And by “morning”, I mean so early that will see see the crack of dawn on the road while smelling the coffee you made in the car on the way. Email Ken directly with any questions on this largest (39,650 acres) protected remnant of tallgrass prairie left on earth.

BLIND NIFTY 50 FOTOWALK
Join us for a 90-minute urban exploration walk in Downtown Tulsa and participate in a shortened version of the Sekonic Meter Challenge. On this FotoWalk, we ask everyone to shoot with a “normal” view lens - 50mm for full-frame & 35mm for crop cameras - and to cover up (or turn off) the image review. On the walk, we will rely on the camera’s internal meter or the more accurate handheld incident light meter. Adding to the fun and the learning experience, we encourage participants to shoot in JPG for easy post-process review.
Not exactly sure how to check light luminosity with your meter? We got your covered with an hour presentation with Robert Trawick, resident Bedford Camera & Video Envoy, on the practical use of light meters both in-camera and external. Don’t have a light meter… Use “Rob4Bedfords” for special pricing on Sekonic meters and thousands of other products.
